Are you looking to be a part of a nursing organization that shares the same common interests as you?
From my many experiences across several different fields of nursing and being a member of several different nursing organizations, I can tell you honestly that there is an organization out there for everyone.
Although I began my nursing career several years ago in the ICU, and now, as you know, I have been working in nursing education for quite some time, I have recently taken an interest in becoming a nurse coach.
I am now taking courses through the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) in pursuit of a nurse coach certification, and I am ecstatic.
But I’m sure you are wondering, “What is the AHNA? What do they focus on? How do I become a member?”
Let’s get into it!
What Is It?
The AHNA is a national non-profit membership association for nurses and other healthcare professionals who have an interest in holistic health practices.
With over 5,000 members, this organization is dedicated to illuminating holistic practices in healthcare through community-based programs, advocacy, research, and education.
The vision of the AHNA is a world where every nurse practices holistic care in some shape or fashion.
What is a Holistic Nurse?
The AHNA defines a holistic nurse as,
“a legally licensed nurse who use nursing knowledge, theories, expertise and intuition to recognize and care for the totality of the human being within the scope and standards of their state and the Holistic Nursing specialty.”
Many holistic nurses specialize in one or more complementary, alternative, or integrative healing modalities and maintain qualifications to practice these modalities in their state in conjunction with practicing holistic nursing.
What are the Member Benefits? What Can I Gain from This?
From scholarship opportunities to invitations to regional and annual conferences, members of the ANHA will be surrounded by others who share the same passion for holistic nursing as they do!
Being a member of AHNA provides you with many resources, including:
- Tools for private practice
- Tips on how to implement holism into nursing practice
- Infectious disease resource information
- Holistic eldercare resources for nurses
- Self-care, resilience, and stress management strategies
- Holistic tool kits
If you are a nurse that is interested in integrating holistic care into your practice, or if you are already involved in holistic nursing, the AHNA is a wonderful resource and community for nurses to collaborate and learn!
