Are tests required?

No. The Kentucky Board of Nursing does not require that tests be taken in order to issue certificates. We do not feel that tests are an efficient use of nurses’ time. Therefore, we do not require tests. You simply need to read the material and certify you have learned the material with one click.

How do I access my certificates once a course is completed?

Your certificate will be instantly emailed to you once you complete a course. Additionally, it is available online for you to access at any time. We keep a record of your certificates for five years.

No. Users may complete the courses at their own pace. Nursing CE Central does not monitor your time spent in courses.

What is your refund policy?

Kentucky BON License Renewal FAQ

How can I renew my license this year?

Nurses will need to renew their license online, by accessing the Kentucky nurse portal at KY Nurse Portal 2 (boardsofnursing.org) once the renewal period opens on September 15, 2023. Nurses must complete the renewal process, including their continuing education requirements, by October 31, 2023.

What are the 2023 CE requirements for renewal?

Nurses must meet Kentucky’s Continuing Education Competency requirements by October 31, 2023 in order to renew their license. While there are several different options of meeting this requirement, most nurses choose to complete 14 or more contact hours of continuing education from an approved provider (such as Nursing CE Central).

Of the 14 hours of required CEUs for renewal, 1.5 hours must be on the newly required Implicit Bias training, and 2 hours must cover the newly required Suicide Prevention course.

Can I renew now, and complete my CEUs later?

Yes. The Kentucky Board of Nursing requires that all continuing education requirements be met by October 31, 2023, however, nurses may renew online ahead of CE completion.

How can I check that my renewal application is complete?

Nurses will receive a confirmation email from the KBN after their license has been renewed. Nurses can also check the status of their renewal application through the Kentucky Board of Nursing’s License Verification Portal. License Lookup (boardsofnursing.org)

Does Nursing CE Central submit proof of completed CEUs automatically to CE Broker? Or will I have to manually do that myself?

To make renewal as easy as possible, Nursing CE Central automatically and instantaneously reports all CEU completion to CE Broker!  We are a certified CE Broker provider and Kentucky nurses who take our courses will NOT have to manually upload course certificates to www.cebroker.com.

How is CE Broker connected to my renewal with Kentucky Board of Nursing?

CE Broker is the official CE tracking system of the Kentucky Board of Nursing. The KBN has provided each nurse with a Free Basic Account, to electronically report, upload and keep track of your continuing education documents. However, Nursing CE Central will automatically report all CEU completion to CE Broker for you!

What do I need to have ready when starting my renewal online with the Kentucky BON?

Most nurses will only need a valid method of payment to complete their renewal through the Kentucky nurse licensing platform. Continuing education requirements must be fulfilled by October 31,2023, if not already complete at the time of online renewal.

How long must I keep documentation proving I completed my 2023 CEU requirements for renewal?

The Kentucky Board of Nursing requires that all licensees keep proof of continuing education completion for each renewal period, for a minimum of five years. This documentation is needed in case a nurse is selected for an audit by the Kentucky BON within that time frame.

*Nursing CE Central stores lifetime copies of all CEU certificates of completion for active members.

What happens if I don't renew my license before the October 31st deadline?

According to the Kentucky Board of Nursing, any nurse who does not renew their license before midnight on October 31, 2023, will have their license lapse. Nurses can NOT work in Kentucky with a lapsed nursing license.

Can I still work/practice if I miss my renewal deadline?

No. Nurses are NOT legally allowed to work in Kentucky with a lapsed nursing license.

How can I get my license active again?

All nurses who miss their renewal deadline will need to file for a license reinstatement with the Kentucky Board of Nursing. More information on the reinstatement process can be found online at the Board’s reinstatement information page (https://kbn.ky.gov/Registered-Nurse/Pages/rn-reinstatement.aspx).

Do I have to pay for a CE Broker account?

No. The KBN has provided each nurse with a Free Basic Account, to electronically report, upload and keep track of your continuing education documents. If you create an account with CE Broker, we will do the rest of the work for you. After you complete your CE requirements with Nursing CE Central, we will automatically report ALL CEU completion to CE Broker for you at no additional cost.
